How to choose the best comic book publisher for me?

There are many comic book publishers, however, unless you are looking for something very niche and specific, I would advise you to go with one of the major publishers listed below.

Major comic book publishers

Marvel

Marvel is both one of the oldest and one of the most popular comic book publishers in the world.

Many of their stories have been adapted to movies or TV series throughout the years.

Founded in 1939 as Timely Publications, Marvel Comics (often called Marvel), is a subdivision of Marvel Entertainment and they are one of the leading American comic book publishers. Among the characters under the Marvel franchise are the Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine and many more. Most of these characters evolve and interact in the same fictional world called the Marvel Universe (also called MCU).

DC Comics

A for Marvel, DC is a very popular comic book publisher that has been around forever and has seen it’s share of adaptations on screen. It was founded 4 years before Marvel.

Founded in 1935 as National Allied Publications, DC Comics is definitely one of the leading American comic book publishers. The initials “DC” stand for “Detective Comics”, one of the original comic book series released by DC the legend has it that Marvel Comics also use the initials to refer as DC as the “Distinguished Competition”. Among the DC Heroes, the fan favorites are Superman and Batman.

Image comics

 

Founded in 1992 Image Comics is an American comic book publisher. The idea came from several successful illustrators to create a publishing company where comics creators could publish material without giving up the copyrights to those properties as opposed to Marvel Comics or DC Comics, where the creator has an employee status with the publisher and anything he creates is the property of the publishing company.
Among the most successful ongoing series are The Walking Dead, Spawn, The darkness, Witchblade, and Invincible.

IDW comics

Founded in 2000, IDW is mostly known for their comic book adaptations of licenses from movies, cartoons, television shows or video games.
