Marvel Studios' Black Widow portrayed by Scarlett Johansson

Cate Shortland will direct the next ‘Black Widow’ Movie

Black Widow has now a Director

After several years of speculations, it seems that we finally will have a Black Widow standalone movie.

According to hollywood reporter, Marvel studios talked to over 70 directors over more than half a year before choosing Cate Shortland.

Cate Shortland is an Australian writer and director who worked for both films and television who is probably most well known for her multi-award-winning movie Lore that was released in 2012.

The Marvel movie that will star Scarlett Johansson should be set before the Iron Man, Avengers and Captain America movie series events (who puts a buck with me on “Black Widow: Origins” as a title?).

Unfortunately, not a lot else is known about the movie itself.

Let’s hope Marvel will slide a little post-credit teaser at the end of another strong female lead movie Captain Marvel, which is due to open March 8.

Who is black widow?

Should you ask question, it means you probably lived under a rock for the last few years as it was hard to miss the Russian spy (unless you do not read comics and don’t go to see Comic inspired movies, but then you are probably here due to a missclick).

However, it’s a great opportunity to refresh everyone’s memory:

Marvel comics - Black widowReal name: Natalia Romanova

Place of birth: (Likely) Leningrad

Super powers: Superhuman strength, agility and speed. Slow aging. Martial arts expert.

Team: S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers

In short: There is a lot of mystery around Black Widow, but most of the reports state that she was an orphan, raised by a Russian soldier that trained as a spy before joining the KGB. She then defected and joined the S.H.I.E.L.D. as their assassin.

In the Marvel Studios, Black Widow has been portrayed by Scarlett Johansson.

In the mean time you can absolutely go back to all the Black Widow comics and don’t hesitate to come see us if you are looking for specific issues.
